Podcast #30 - Some Songs

"Dancing with Vernaculars"  So, that was the prompt. As it often happens, I had no idea what the hell to do with it. Then I started thinking about the process of writing and songs past and present and some songs I'd forgotten and, upon hearing them again, found they just didn't mean as much to me as they once did. Some songs I didn't even have to hear again. I thought about how songwriting starts and how some just seem to spit out nonsense and others dive pretty deep. I like to layer meaning in my songs whether or not the audience notices it. Most of the time there's an "inside joke" in there somewhere that satisfies some deep urge to comment on an issue I'm thinking over. This song is no different. :)

P.S.
Just arrived in Colorado from New Mexico! Here's a pic from White Sands National Monument ;)

Some Songs
Sing anything
Play around with syllables
It sounds pretty good
Kind of makes me think
and remember
how it used to be
I  remember
When it used to mean

Something to me
The words fail
The melody I
Want to feel them deeply
But some songs have no meaning
Some have no meaning

I’ve been keeping time
Feel the beat then
Stop it on a dime
Just like all the songs
I left behind
I remember
how it used to be
I  remember
When they used to mean

Something to me
The words fail
The melody I
Want to feel it deeply
But some songs have no meaning
Some have no meaning

Start that song again
The one that‘s heavy with
the words I used to know
play it on repeat
I can hear there’s nothing
humming through it
soft and low
I hate it when it comes too easy
runs the risk of never meaning

Something to me
The words fail
The melody I
Want to feel it deeply
But some songs have no meaning
Some have no meaning

Saying nothing in particular
Just dancing with vernaculars
Kind of rings familiar
But some songs have no meaning
No, some songs have no meaning
Some songs have no meaning
